School begins, Practice changes

ok, the new school year is here and i know a lot of you have other sports and activities that you are involved in. If you are interested in still pursuing pole vault in the off season, a couple of things have to happen:

1. you have to join USATF.org at http://www.usatf.org/assoc/az/IndividualMembership.html this keeps things legal and you eligible for competition during regular season. its 20 bucks i think and good until the season starts in the new year.

2. you need to put on that application that you want to be part of a club: north valley pole vaulters club number 48-0412

3. you need to keep your grades up. i want you to focus on the right things and make sure your priorities are straight.

4. practices will be focused on getting into shape and will be in the pit once a week and in the gym 2 other days with running requirements on off days. I will require two days of running and lifting (one each) a week before i let you jump.

Why the changes?

the club ensures that we are recognized by the state and therefore do not break any of the competition eligibility rules for the spring season

we spent the summer in the pit and i think you all learned a lot about what you can do and what you need to do. With football taking over the field, we will not have the same kind of access to the pit as we did over the summer, and i want to take this time to build up your strength and endurance so that we can exploit the things you have learned. I do not want there to be a point that you say "if only i could run faster" or "if only i was stronger" i want to be ahead of your learning curve so that there is nothing stopping you from achieving greatness.

That being said, i am requiring the run day and lift day prior to jumping so that you have to put in the effort too. i cant have you just coming out once a week to jump and not aiding yourself throughout the week. that will only make you frustrated and not improve.

I hope that you all want to partake in the fall/winter, and if you are involved in another sport or activity, we can work around scheduling and modify workouts, but that is modify, not a pass.

please text me if you have any questions.

Welcome to NVPV

Welcome to North Valley Pole Vaulters!

Here is the basic information you need to know.

1. If you practice over the summer, you need to legally participate in a club to be eligible for competition during the school year next year. To be a member, go to http://www.usatf.org/assoc/az/IndividualMembership.html and register there. Our club number is still forthcoming, I will let you know as soon as i know. You can try to look it up, but just put the name of the club if you cant find the number. The membership is good for a calendar year, so if you are already a member this year, you do not need to join again, just update you membership with the club number.  If you are a new member, i would suggest joining for 2 years, so you will be covered for next year too.  In addition to needing it for the club, membership covers your insurance at invitationals in case of personal injury or damage to equipment

2. Club Fee is $50 per person. This will cover facility fees and supplies.  This is a one time fee and is good till the start of the 2012 track season.  Please talk to me personally if this is an issue. This is collected at practice.

3. I have to go back to work unfortunately, so i will be in and out this summer. BUT, do not fear. Mike Dryden from Mountain Ridge and Mike Wheat will be around this summer too.  We believe that the more of us that are around, the more personal attention you will receive.

4. Official practice will be TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS 5 - 8 pm through the summer (until school starts at which time we will discuss options).  what does official mean? It means that someone will be there at those times. At least one of us, maybe all three of us, but it is set and can be counted on. unofficial practices are possible too. these are probably going to be mostly with me and beyond the tuesday thursday thing, such as a friday or monday, perhaps more one on one. im throwing those out there because i travel and will be missing the tuesdays and thursdays here and there. we can discuss these more on the 14th.

5. FIRST PRACTICE!!! we will be starting this on JUNE 14th! please look at your calendar and see how this works into your summer work/vacation/other sports.  it is not set in stone, and if it needs to change (if i have enough people respond to me that it just isnt going to work) i will talk to the mikes and see what we can work out.

6. What to expect... expect to get into shape. expect to work hard. Bring water. Bring energy. With only two practices a week, we need you to be dedicated and focused.  I want to work with each vaulter on what they need to improve, but there will be requirements for all vaulters, such as running and drills and weights.  Remember, for the most part, we arent doing things just to torment you, but to make you better.  Also, please remember that we are giving our time, so please be prompt to practice or be forthcoming with conflicts.

7. This website is where i will post new information and videos and whatever else i feel relevant for you.  I'll probably text you to check the blog when there is something new on it, as i did this time.  feel free to follow or comment, or whatever else you feel like doing :) but keep it respectful.

Please let me know that you have read this and that i can count on you to be at the school at 5pm on the 14th ready to get this going.  I will also be looking into meets during the summer - no promises though.
